The West End's Dundee Art Society is a registered charity and one of the oldest art societies in the UK.

Founded in 1890 to encourage 'art for all' it is still very active hosting classes, exhibition and monthly art talks at its home in the Roseangle Gallery.

Dundee Art Society - free talk #dundeewestend

The next free talk and demonstration at the Roseangle Gallery will be from Jonathan Mitchell, the renowned landscape painter.

It takes place this Friday evening - 19th April - from 7pm to 9pm.

Jonathan will be demonstrating his incredible skill with a demo piece of work so whatever you paint yourself you’ll learn from his techniques or as he said himself “... an opportunity to bear witness to Mitchell’s Magic brush in action”.

Non members very welcome for a very entertaining evening.

Dundee Art Society's free monthly artists talks are back after our summer break and the first speaker will be Russell Pepper from Dundee's own Open/Close.

Russell will talk about "Murals and Street Art of Dundee".

‘4 Dundee Artists’ #dundeewestend

‘4 Dundee Artists’ is an exhibition at Dundee Art Society at the Roseangle Gallery, 17 Roseangle taking place daily until Saturday 22nd July, 11am – 4pm daily (except Mondays).

There is an exhibition of 70 plus paintings by 20th-century Dundee artists - Alberto Morrocco, David McClure, James McIntosh Patrick and Ian G M Eadie.

Outside In at Roseangle Gallery #dundeewestend

A Group Art Show called Outside In is taking place at the Dundee Art Society's Roseangle Gallery.

The opening night is this Friday - 16th June - from 7pm to 9pm, with the show continuing from 17th June to 25th June daily from 10am to 5pm - all welcome!

Dundee Art Society talk #dundeewestend

Tomorrow night - Friday 21st of April - from 7pm to 9pm at Roseangle Gallery, Dundee Art Society invites residents to enjoy a master class by world renowned watercolourist and artist.

Angus McEwan will showcase his work and discuss his techniques in watercolour revealing his secrets and mastery of the landscape in all its forms covering themes like colour choice, textures, materials and how to use them, and composition.

Neo Impressionistic technique of Pointillism

Allan is a highly regarded contemporary artist.

He is inspired by Seurat, Signac, Cross and others. He will demonstrate using pastels, the principles of Pointillism, exploring the technique of divided colour, in order to create a work in the gallery.

This month’s free talk at the Roseangle Gallery home of the Dundee Art Society is by the very talented artist Hilke MacIntyre.

It takes place tomorrow - Friday 21st October - from 7pm to 9pm.

Hilke specialises in ceramic reliefs, linocuts and paintings preferring colour, pattern, simplified shapes and abstracted spaces. 

She enjoys developing new ideas to combine these elements in pictures of life around her and inspiration from the ‘primitive’ art, contemporary design and nature of early 20th century art.

This Friday evening - 16th September - from 7pm-9pm - sees the first in a series of free to attend talks by artists and speakers on varied and colourful topics showing the world of art in all its forms.

This will be hosted by Dundee Art Society at the Roseangle Gallery.

This Friday evening the talk and demonstration is by Karen van de Graaf, portrait artist.

Karen is known for her high speed portraits as an official artist at the Fringe Festival, landscapes, cityscapes and animal portraits and finds the experience she gained at the Fringe enhances the life in her paintings. 

Karen’s art conveys energy and her passion for colour. She uses different mediums including charcoal, watercolour, oil, soft pastel and inks. She enjoys making art using both a traditional approach to painting and a more abstract method.

Perth Road - a personal history #dundeewestend

Yesterday, Fraser had the pleasure of meeting with Linda Brownlee, President of Dundee Art Society, at the Roseangle Gallery to view "Perth Road - a personal history" - a private commission for a West End resident.

It is superb and in two canvasses measuring 9ft by 4ft features well-known Perth Road landmarks and the surrounding area.

It will be on display in the gallery from 4th to 11th June and thereafter for a few weeks in Mennies.

Linda will have her first solo exhibition in August at EAStudios in Broughty Ferry where she'll have 60 Dundee artworks on show - don't miss it!

Dundee Art Society Exhibition #dundeewestend

Dundee Art Society is holding their Winter Art Exhibition at Roseangle Gallery, 17 Roseangle.

Although Covid rules are in place, so no preview with refreshments and a wee glass of wine can happen, but at least we are allowed to open this exhibition for a week. 

It starts on Saturday 21st November and runs every day till Saturday 28th November, open daily from 11am to 5pm.

Dundee Art Society's Art 125 Exhibition

Dundee Art Society’s Art 125 Exhibition is currently open daily at the Discovery Point Café Gallery.

The society is celebrating its 125th year this year, and this show is dedicated to displaying the rich variety of talent, endowed on the city by their current members.

It includes an eclectic mix of mostly realist styles, some abstract for variety and mixed media works. 

Members of Dundee Art Society range from professional artists to the majority of amateur artists, and the student; the works shown vary tremendously and provide something for every viewing preference, with works in watercolour, oil, gouache, pastel and mixed media including glass.  

Entry is free of charge.
