minimise disruption to traffic, these advance works were planned to be carried
out over 3 days with the traffic management only in place outwith the peak
periods of 7.30am to 9.30am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
On
that day, demolition works were being carried out to the splitter island at the
south end of the bridge and works did not progress as planned such that it was
considered safer to leave the traffic management in place whilst works
continued.
In hindsight, when it was clear that the works were not progressing as planned, a decision should have been taken earlier to stop work at a safe point, and the traffic management measures removed as planned at 3.30pm.
Please note that other advance works were planned and carried out overnight that night further down the A92 removing barriers to enable the future contraflow measures required for the main surfacing works to be implemented over the coming 3 weekends starting 10 October 2014 (Friday 7.30pm to Monday 6.00am).
Please note that the remaining advance works will be carried out with the traffic management only in place outwith the peak periods of 7.30am to 9.30am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm."
