I promised my good friend Pat Doherty to publicise the superb charity effort being undertaken by his son Chris. Some information is below and you can read more at www.run4charity.net.
Run4charity are a small group of people trying to raise as much money as possible for two amazing charities.
The Charities
The target is to raise £10,000 for two charities:
Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance - Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal.
We are raising money in memory of Sadie Rose to support the Neuroblastoma charity and children & families affected by this rare form of cancer. We were deeply touched hearing about Sadie and the brave way in which she and her family coped with the condition.
Unfortunately on Monday 25th June 2012 Sadie lost her fight against this horrible disease Treatment is expensive and so the funds we raise will be used to help other children who are suffering from this condition and need treatment.
The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity (Sands) – In memory of Freya.
Sands is an organisation that offers families support when a baby dies during pregnancy or after birth. The death of a baby is a devastating experience. The effects of grief can be overwhelming and parents, their families and friends can be left feeling dazed, disorientated, isolated and exhausted.
The Challenge
Throughout 2013 Run4Charity will be taking part in numerous events including the London Marathon, Nidderdale 15 mile, Knaresborough Bed Race and the main event running the Coast to Coast and cycling back again which is 400 miles in total.
In August 2013, Chris Doherty plans to run from St. Bees on the west coast of England to Robin Hood's Bay on the east coast and then cycle back in the opposite direction. This is a journey of nearly 400 miles and he plans to do it in nine days. He will be accompanied by his brother, Mark, who will be cycling the route (and getting a bike over the top of the mountains somehow).
The challenge will trace the coast-to-coast walk devised by Alfred Wainwright. The route covers around 192 miles and passes through three national parks (the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park).
The route goes from sea level to around 2 560 feet high (Kidsty Pike) and Wainwright recommends that walkers dip their feet in the Irish Sea at St. Bees and then in the North Sea at Robin Hood's Bay...something that they will be doing!
But this isn't the end of the challenge...they intend to turn around and cycle back to St. Bees. We anticipate that the total distance travelled will be around 400 miles and will take us under nine days to complete.
