West End Christmas Events calendar launched!

The Dundee West End Christmas Fortnight committee has announced the programme of West End Christmas events starting later this month, with the largest-ever series of Christmas activities and events across the West End in the 13 year history of the Christmas Fortnight.

The West End Christmas Committee is really grateful to all local residents, organisations and businesses who have made this programme of events possible and we hope the whole community will take part.

The Fortnight will be launched with West End Community Fayre, taking place in Dundee West Church from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday 23rd November and over 25 local groups in the West End are taking part.   Entrance is entirely free of charge and it will be a great way for local residents to learn about all the organisations in the West End that are working for the local area.

There will be lots to see, including free face painting for the children and the children from the Russian School at Menzieshill High School will be singing.   It is also hoped that other local children will also be performing.

This year’s West End Christmas Concert takes place at Dundee West Church at 6.15pm on Tuesday 26th  November.   There will be musical contributions from local primary schools and Harris Academy.    A local band will also perform and Mains of Fintry Pipe Band will pipe everyone from the church to Seabraes for the Christmas Lights Switch-On.

At 7pm, the West End Christmas Lights will be switched on at Seabraes by local radio presenter Dave Price, plus a host of Christmas characters.    Santa and his sleigh will also be there to meet the children and there will be a spectacular fireworks display after the lights switch-on.

Other Christmas Fortnight activities include an art competition for P1 and P2 children from local schools and a football competition for local P5 pupils, a Friends of Magdalen Green Soup and Pudding lunch, a play by Jericho House service users and staff, carol singing in Perth Road on two Saturdays and three Christmas crafts activities for children, taking place at Blackness Library.

We are soon to be launching the Christmas Fortnight Brochure and it will give residents all the details about the activities taking place during the Fortnight.   It has been great to see so many members of the community taking part over the past 13 years and with the largest ever series of events this year, we are all looking forward to West End Christmas Fortnight.
