Adventure on the High Seas – Make your own Magic Lantern Film Show

From the Curator of Museum Services at the University of Dundee:

A special event for Dundee Science Festival on Monday 11th November 2013, 6pm-9pm at the D'Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum, Carnelley Building, University of Dundee:

Adventure on the High Seas – Make your own Magic Lantern Film Show

Explore Victorian marine science and make your own magic lantern animation in this special workshop led by artist Jennie Pedley using her special mini shadow theatre kit.

Inspired by the collections and marine investigations of D'Arcy Thompson, you will create drawings designed to move as part of a specially lit mini shadow theatre, which will then be recorded to create a unique animated film which you be will be able to keep.

The evening will also include the premiere showing of a short silhouette film, Aristotle’s Lagoon, commissioned for the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum with funding from the Art Fund. You will have a chance to see and handle the silhouettes and objects Jennie used in the film and purchase your own version of her mini shadow theatre kits.

The event is suitable for adults and families - children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost: £5 for adults, £2.50 for children (under 16). Places are limited and tickets must be purchased in advance via http://www.dundee.ac.uk/museum/collections/zoology/events/.
