Simon Chadwick |
Tomorrow lunchtime, ancient music specialist Simon Chadwick will be presenting a musical tour of Northern Europe.
Playing a strange rustic bowed-lyre with only 2 horsehair strings, Simon will transport listeners across the old North from Finland, via Shetland, to Iceland, calling at various other places in between.
These wavering, distant folk tunes are drawn from historical oral traditions and rare books, and their repetitive mesmeric sounds evoke the times when the Vikings travelled between Scandinavia and Scotland, Ireland, Iceland and beyond.
This half-hour concert will be held upstairs in the Central Library. The concert is on Wednesday 2nd October, starting at 1.15pm. Admission is free.
