In addition to visiting four constituents today about issues and concerns they had raised with me, this afternoon I took part in the City Council's Local Economy Monitoring Group's latest meeting. This group, chaired by the City Council's Chief Executive, is a useful opportunity for senior council officers, a cross-party group of councillors and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Small Businesses to discuss the local economy and business growth in the city.
Today, we had updates and exchanged views on youth employment, progress with renewables, the Waterfront/V and A and the Work Programme.
Last year, there was an excellent, well-attended Dundee Economic Summit and the group was updated today about arrangements for a 2013 summit, to take place in late May or early June.
This evening, after a site visit to discuss a resident's complaint about fly-tipping, I attended the latest meeting of the Community Spirit Action Group, the community group for the north of the West End Ward (including Pentland, Tullideph, Ancrum, Forest Park and surrounding area).
There was a highly interesting and informative presentation about the city's Family History Centre given by City Registrar Grant Law. We also had a good discussion about various local issues.
