Last night, I chaired the latest meeting of the West End Christmas Week Committee at the community base in the Vine at Magdalen Yard Road.
Christmas Week is taking great shape and, amongst the many activities, are :
Saturday 26th November : Community Fayre to launch Christmas Week, starting at 10am. Taking place at Dundee West Church lower hall (Roseangle). Opened by Lord Provost John Letford and featuring stands from many local community groups. Also P5s' football competition on Magdalen Green.
Monday 28th November : Nethergate Writers reading evening, with musical entertainment from Sophie Ramsay. Taking place at the West End community base in the Vine at 7pm. Complimentary wine and nibbles and all residents welcome.
Thursday 1st December : West End Christmas Concert at Dundee West Church, starting at 6pm and featuring musical contributions from our four local primary schools, Harris Academy, Sheena Wellington and the children from the Russian School at Harris. Thereafter, the 44th Dundee BB Company Pipe Band will lead everyone to Seabraes where the Christmas Lights will be switched on by Sheena Wellington and characters from Aladdin, Downfield Musical Society's Christmas Panto! A spectacular fireworks display follows!
Friday 2nd December : At 2.30pm - 'The Divine Afflatus' - a walk through McGonagall's mental landscape from sewage lagoon to maritime quarter - with Professor Charles McKean. The Christmas Lights at West Port are switched on at 4.30pm by local traders.
