Over the past few days I have become increasingly concerned at the number of residential streets in the West End that are still awaiting any form of ploughing or gritting and am particularly concerned for the elderly people in these streets.
I have over 10 days raised the situation in literally dozens of streets in the West End with winter maintenance and although I applaud all efforts being made, I am becoming increasingly concerned about the number of residential streets still untreated.
Coming up for two weeks into this weather situation, I do think we absolutely need to see all these streets tackled as a matter of urgency now.
Residents have made the point to me that they appreciated in the very heavy snow last week that there were priority routes – primarily the bus routes to keep public transport running - but this week we have now seen some days of a lack of further snow falls and rising temperature and residents are rightly asking when their own street will be tackled.
I had a very useful discussion today with the Roads Maintenance Partnership Manager at Tayside Contracts to get help to some streets where there have been lots of concerns and I am grateful for his help – it is really important to ensure residents’ concerns are addressed.
I have also written to the City Council’s Chief Executive and the City Engineer on this matter.
