Friends of Magdalen Green update

Latest news from Friends of Magdalen Green

The Friends are holding a photograph competition to select 12 photographs of the Green and its immediate surroundings in order to create a Magdalen Green Calendar for 2009. The competition is open to all Friends of Magdalen Green and people living within the West End Ward, including schoolchildren.

The competition will be judged by a professional photographer. The closing date for entries is Monday 12th May and you can read more details by clicking on the headline above. Application forms are also available at Blackness Library (where entries should be submitted).

The Friends (apart from the aforementioned blog) now have a new website too - http://www.magdalengreen.btik.com

The next public meeting of Friends of Magdalen Green will be on Tuesday 20th May at 7pm in Dundee West Church Hall, Perth Road. The main speaker will be Andrew Gray who will give a short presentation on his visit to Shanghai last Autumn where he won a gold medal swimming in the Special Olympics.

After Andrew's presentation the winners of the photograph competition will be announced. The Friends' Annual General Meeting will follow.

On Wednesday 21st May from 1.30pm-3pm in Blackness Library, Dorothy Potter will introduce the first of five meetings on the History of Magdalen Green.

The first meeting will also be attended by Ian Hendry who will show fascinating old postcards of the Green. The purpose of these meetings is to put together resources on the history of the Green so whether you have memories of the Green in days gone by or are just interested in local history or would like to help create historical resources about the Green, do come along and take part. The other 4 meetings will be on 28th May, 4th, 11th, and 18th June, all in Blackness Library from 1.30pm-3pm.
