Stagecoach Strathtay Bus Fares Increase

Stagecoach Strathtay has recently informed the City Council that its bus fares are set to increase on 17 March 2008, and all commercially operated services in the Strathtay area will be affected.
As many constituents in the West End use the Strathtay services, this will not be welcome news for them. The company says the increase will give it a yield of 4.76% and if you click the headline above, you can see the effect on particular fares.
There is no doubt that fares generally are now on the increase, with the government's decision to freeze the bus service operators’ grant (BSOG). The freeze on BSOG will cost Scottish bus operators £7.5m over 18 months. It is not good news for public transport and hardly an incentive to encourage people to make less use of their cars.
